Product Overview
The NEMA23 closed-loop stepper motor (23IE) brings the reliability of encoder feedback to the 57mm NEMA23 frame size, offering holding torque of 1.2 N·m and 2.0 N·m in 55mm and 98mm length variants respectively. By integrating a 1000-line incremental encoder, the 23IE series eliminates the risk of missed steps that can plague open-loop NEMA23 systems under heavy load or at high speeds.
The 23IE series is built on the 23K255 and 23K276 motor platforms, each available with multiple current ratings (1.0A, 2.0A, and 3.0A for the 23K255; 2.0A, 3.0A, and 4.0A for the 23K276). The encoder provides differential quadrature outputs with 1000-line resolution, enabling 4000 counts per revolution in quadrature mode. When paired with a compatible closed-loop stepper driver, these motors can operate efficiently at speeds up to 3000 RPM while maintaining full torque capability.
The NEMA23 closed-loop configuration is particularly advantageous in industrial settings where the higher torque of the 23IE is needed but the expense and complexity of servo systems are prohibitive. The closed-loop feedback ensures position integrity even during load disturbances, acceleration/deceleration transients, and rapid direction changes. Active current management reduces motor heating and power consumption during idle periods, while the encoder-based damping suppresses mid-range instability and resonance effects common in larger stepper motors.
